I believe that Wednesday is February 10th. I will be there. David and Alan...please provide me with a checklist so I can make sure to do everything that is required to run the event. I am looking forward to increased responsibilities and hope that all goes well.

I don't post to be critical, but most of us are not in Miata's and the majority of last years courses were done in that tight fashion which would suit those cars better. I couldn't tell you how many times my gearing has not suited a course, stuck either redline or too low in 3rd. Those things just happen, but this course was superb and I do not want anything to detract from that. Excellent execution!
Oops, I asked for that! I do not remember a course being better received than that one in a long time. It flowed very well and was fast. It was as much Kevin's design as mine. I believe that it was the fastest course that the Jacksonville group has had in the three years I have been running. The only faster ones I have been on have been at Roebling Road where they have 100 foot slaloms and fast gates on the last half of the course.
These are supposed to be precision driving events and it is best to mix the course design up a bit to avoid favoring anyone. I have been involved in the set up since early last year. My roll has been as a collaborator as two or three of us refine the course while laying it out to make it work. I did it because I was seeing too many confusing courses and some, at other locations, were so tight and tricky that I stopped going. One was like driving in a Publix parking lot! I had one last year that was too tight...and we loosened it up after laying it out. I have a lot to learn. You will not see any tricks on any of my courses, but we do need turns and braking areas to make it a meaningful event.
I surveyed this course and have it laid out on my computer exactly as run. It will be used again. Alan suggested running it backwards which we can do by flipping it on the computer and making the start and finish work properly. We can control speeds by subtle changes...wider offsets, tighter slaloms, tighter corners. Nobody likes a too tight course, especially me, but we do need safe courses with some variety in the speeds.
We have eight events this year. Anyone wanting to design a course can do it on their own or work with me to make sure that we have a nice variety. Laying it out on paper before the event helps speed up the placement of cones. We then drive it to see how it looks and make changes as needed. I enjoy designing the courses and feel that they are getting better all the time.
I already have a course for next month. It is fast and flows very well. I think everyone will like it. I will bring it to the meeting Wednesday for comments and corrections.
