2013 Awards Banquet - Jax Solo

Postby digitalseance » Sat Nov 16, 2013 6:51 pm

This year the BoD and Solo Chair's have decided that the annual banquet will not be a joint effort. Its up to the individual solo groups to plan and host their own. Both clubs discussed their options at the solo meetings this past week.

When all those who attended the Jax Solo meeting voted, it was split 50/50 on whether to have the awards banquet in December or January. Normally I make an executive decision and roll with it. This time, I'm allowing everyone to chime in. We're hoping that Whitehouse will be available the date that is chosen to hold a charity solo event the day of. This is TBD and will be based on availability.

Please vote for the date you would like to see our awards banquet held. If you know of a place to have it on that date, please post below. Some options have been Bold City Brewery, Intuition Ale Works, Taps (Fleming Island), Taverna Yamas and Picasso's. Keep in mind that the location must be able to have a closed off room to the rest of the facility to allow for speaking without the need for a microphone (Yamas would be iffy unless started early). Obviously location is subject to availability.

Amanda will see what kind of deal she can get us at the Amelia Island Omni... Its a hike from Whitehouse, and might be out of our price range, but its worth checking out.

Also, count our votes for "early January."

Also, did we ever approach the Fernandina Beach airport about holding events there?

Jan 11th would be the best date for me, as I'd be leaving for Costa Rica Monday the 13th. :D
Dec 14th would be the only other date I could make it, but I wouldn't be able to party much as I have an 8:00 am flight out of Gainesville going to Veracruz the next day. :|
I won't even be in town for that later date in January.

Another restaurant option for the mix: The Irish place near 5 Points. Bill L's friend, & past etrant, Drew Calvins runs it. We had a meeting upstairs once. I dont recall if that was large enough. . . . obrothersirishpub.com

My friend Drew Cavins owns both Mossfire and O'Brothers. O'Brothers has a small area upstairs that would work for up to 20 or so. Depending on the night, we possibly could take the entire upstairs at Mossfire and host as many as 50 or so. I will ask him if everyone is interested in either of these.

With the 14th being a Sat Evening, I doubt Mossfire is going to want to give us a big chunk of their space... that's a big "ask" of a small restaurant.

For anyone not familiar with Mossfire, their food is excellent, service exceptional, and the drinks are top-notch. Definitely one of the places that I've missed since our move to the 'burbs. :(

I've got an email out to Intuition and Bold City has an event that night. Just judging by Intuition's verbiage on their website, its looking like Taps will likely be the place.

Dec 14th has a strong lead but only 10 people have voted, the exact same amount from the meeting. C'mon guys, if you don't care about the date then just pick one. 10 votes is not encouraging and isn't exactly an incentive for the club to drop heavy coin on renting a private room...

Year end points are updated and online. The last event was a pain as Axware wouldn't let me do what I was trying to do so I had to edit it manually. It did pick up the actual points, so points total and total with drops are accurate but the last column for event 14 might have a few errors. I tried my best. :)

To qualify for year end awards, you had to compete in at least 8 events (1 more than 1/2). Still working on a venu but date is set for Dec 14th. Whitehouse is available that day if we still want to have a charity solo.

I heard back from Intuition and they're not able to close down the tap room for us, so Taps in Fleming Island will be the location and we'll have a private room. Everyone will be responsible for their own tab, as of now. If the region helps us, I'll try and divert those funds to door prizes (helmets and other racing gear).

I've setup an event in the online registration site for everyone to register for the banquet. Entry fee is 0, so don't pay. The region will be supplying door prizes so we need to get a headcount going (for Taps too!).

Please register online for the banquet and add your guest count in the sponsor field (for me, I'd register and have +1 or Denise in the sponsor field).

Also, online registration for the charity solo at Whitehouse is also open!

Is the Charity Solo open to SCCA members only, or for everyone? Got a guy with a couple Porsches I'm trying to talk into going to an event. Would be good for an event with no stakes...except bragging rights.
